The Los Angeles Dodgers continued to collectively hit well as they extended their winning streak to five games behind a 12-2 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays in the series opener at Rogers Centre.

Playing in Toronto for the first time since considering the Blue Jays in free agency, Shohei Ohtani was greeted with loud boos during lineup introductions and announced for his first plate appearance.

Ohtani hardly appeared fazed by the reaction as he lifted a solo home run to right field, giving the Dodgers an early lead. It also tied Ohtani with manager Dave Roberts for the Dodgers record of most home runs hit by a Japanese-born player.

More offense came in the third inning when the Dodgers lineup batted around and pushed across six runs to break the game open.

It started with an RBI single from Freddie Freeman, who then scored on Will Smith’s base hit. Max Muncy followed that with a two-run homer and Gavin Lux capped off the big inning with an RBI single.

Smith contributed again in the fourth inning, this time with a home run, and Betts’ RBI double in the fifth extended the Dodgers’ lead to 9-1. Smith produced a second consecutive four-hit game.

A throwing error on Muncy’s infield single and Andy Pages’ sacrifice fly further put the Dodgers ahead in sixth inning. They scored a 12th and final run in the ninth against Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who started at third base and also played shortstop before being asked to pitch in the lopsided affair.

Dodgers offense during winning streak

The Dodgers have reached double digits three times during their current five-game winning streak and outscored opponents 39-6 during the stretch.

Furthermore, their offense has combined to hit .351/.472/.574 during the winning streak.
