New York Jets Make Surprise Trade Of Starting Pass Rusher To Denver Broncos
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets made a surprise trade Saturday afternoon with the Denver Broncos over a starting defensive lineman. The Jets made an important trade with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason for star pass rusher Hasson Reddick.

The Jets are expected to make their 2022 first-round pick, Jermaine Johnson, a starter for the upcoming season. With Johnson expected to replace John Franklin-Myers, the team decided to execute a trade of the veteran.

The New York Jets traded John Franklin-Myers

According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Jets t raded Franklin-Myers to the Broncos for a 2026 sixth-round pick. This is the second trade the Jets and Broncos made this week, as the Jets traded Zach Wilson to the Broncos earlier in the week.

The Denver Broncos are getting a three-year starter

Franklin Myers has been a full-time starter for the Jets in the previous three seasons. In his five years in the league, he’s recorded 135 tackles, 19.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus gave him a 70.4 overall grade for the 2023 season.

The Rams selected Myers in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. They waived him following training camp in 2019, and he signed with the Jets for the 2019 season. In October of the 2021 season, he signed a four-year extension worth $55 million.
